Global Education

Global education is an approach to teaching and learning that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives to understand and engage with the world beyond their immediate communities. It emphasizes global awareness, intercultural understanding, critical thinking, and the ability to take action on global issues. In Hawaii, global education is especially relevant due to the state's unique geographic location in the Pacific, its rich cultural diversity, and its deep historical connections. Hawaii provides a natural setting for fostering global competencies, encouraging students to think beyond their island home while also valuing and preserving their own cultural identities. Through initiatives like integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into STEM and computer science education, Hawaii’s students can see themselves as active participants in solving global challenges while remaining rooted in their local heritage.
