Today was a travel day, which meant no specific activities were planned other than getting to our next destination: Rivera. My travel companions, Kareena, Cheree, and Anne, along with our city host Maite and our van driver Milton, embarked on an 8-hour van journey north from Montevideo.
After checking out of our hotel and bidding farewell to our fellow Fulbrighters, we packed our belongings into the van and settled in for the long ride. I took a nap to prepare for our arrival in Rivera.
Along the way, we made a pit stop at a rest area for bathroom breaks and to grab some snacks and drinks. Around the halfway point, we stopped for lunch at Pan y Vino in Duranzo. Despite the chilly weather, I enjoyed a large and delicious portion of Pasta Bolognese.
To stretch our legs, we took a break at the Zoologico Municipal in Tacuarembo, Maite's hometown. We had a fun time interacting with the llamas, ducks, sheep, and goats, and a short walk was a great way to re-energize after sitting for so long.
As we journeyed north, the landscape gradually transformed from the urban sprawl of Montevideo to the more open and rural scenery of the Uruguayan countryside.
Finally, we arrived in Rivera. Exhausted from the long day of travel, I skipped dinner and went straight to bed, eager to fight this cough and cold. Tomorrow we visit our first school in Rivera!
